I am wondering why the Auto Gear Select indicator only displays D or DS while it will display M1 - M6 for manual mode.

Do you not think that it would be better if it also displayed the gear it was in when in D or DS, i.e display D1-D6 or DS1-DS6.

In practice it probably does not help much but it would be nice to see which gear you are in.

I agree! My Touareg showed D1-D6. Not necessary, but fun.

Dam - I was kinda hoping for a response that informed that if I pressed the gearselector down, turned the iDrive 6 turns to the left and held my breath for 5 minutes then it would start working

And once they get it to display the current gear no matter what mode you are in, they need to....

Marty,

If you press the gearselector down, turn the iDrive 6 turns to the left and hold your breath for 5 minutes it would start working.

Also try balancing on the roof shark fin, wearing wellies and you will automatically upgrade the i - drive to windows 3.1.
