They say the E60 is better than the E39. They love the cars size, driving stability, seats, interior, exterior, active steering, engine, tires, clutch, brakes- "The 545 is as near automotive perfection as you can find" Things they did not like was the suspension is to stiff with the sport package, i-drive and price.

I think the only reason some people do not like idrive is because they do not know how to use it. So it is easier to say it sucks than it is to learn how to use it.

Totally agree!
It takes you 2 seconds to say "sucks!!!" than spending 20 minutes to learn it

The guys who write those articles have only a couple hours to spend with the car and then a brief amount of days to write the article. The pattern that has occurred with them is that they like the familiarity of a simple 'rental car approach' to controls and interface and the iDrive is the exact opposite of a 'rental car approach'. They have been able to focus on traditional issues like horsepower, speed, suspension and steering alone with minimal need to bother with controls.

The iDrive is easy to use after a few days, but maddening if you want instant familiarity as you might have with a rental car. And it takes too much time for a writer to learn for an article, so they just complain about iDrive as a result.

The reality is that the iDrive is the future of where all cars will eventually be, and all will have one kind of interface or another simply because of the power it brings to the user and his car. And eventually even the rental cars will no longer be like the 'model-T' and have to be learned with some effort and time.

Film cameras went through this change with digital cameras. And now all digital cameras have their own interface which is necessary to learn in order to use the camera.

i agree. audi has similar thing now. i personally think people who don't like idrive are the conservative ones <_<. they are not willing to adapt new technologies . try think of it, w/o idrive, how many more buttons we need on the center console ? then those people will complain there are too many buttons and complicated to look for one single volume button. more important is there are so many info in the idrive that we won't be able to retrieve w/o it.

Totally agree,

Do you know how cool it is that from a single button you can control almost everything about your car?

No more guessing which button you should press for bass/treb..etc.

They said they loved the six speed and specifically mentioned how much better the clutch engagement was over the E39.
