After visiting a restuarant today we returned to the car to find the bootlid wide open. The car was parked probably 40-50 feet away from where we were sitting. I believe it was inadvertantly activated by the key in my pocket when I sat down. I think BMW should have made the range more like 10 feet or so. Fortunately nothing was taken, and I know its not an every day occurance, but I still think the way it works is totally unacceptable.

Anyone else think the same?

it's happened to me at work before, fortunately another employee let me know...I probably sit about 75 ft from the car.

Happened to me as well. Walked out of restaurant after lunch and my trunk was wide open.

On the other hand I love the feature.

Today I was carring my new PC (proud ) computer to my car
from a local mall, but wisely I did take the key to my right hand
when I left the shop.
(Stuipd enough, I did not take a cart.)

I did pop up the trunk as soon as I saw my car (some 50 meters
away), and boy did I felt relieved to throw in the 30 pound package.

What kind of key chain do you guys have?

The OEM leather holster makes no problem, see this post.

I'm surprised by the complaints. When I try to open my boot/trunk, I set off the panic alarm about a third of the time! It seems like the timing of opening the lid and the panic alarm (2 seconds) is pretty close.

Dead bodies?? Now I'm starting to wonder what you are really talking about when you post your "kill" stories
