just an update....
brought my car back to bmw today...they send me to an authorised paint shop....did a look & quote of the damage....they suggest me to replace the whole bumper....as the underside is actually attached the bumper...since its plastic....that area is thin & soft......and is bented...very hard to fix it back in shape...plus the engine cover/undershield also disfigure...no guarantee they can repair it..so quoted me to replace the whole M front bumper....
the quote...parts (M bumper + engine undershield = $1500, labour + GST etc = $1000, total $2500)
now its just a matter of make an insurance claim or do it on my own....(i got my cover thru BMW...they covered with Lumley for me, not the usual Allianz)....I got full NCB...I gotta call up on Monday to see if I got NCB protection (I m kind of sure have)...and what will be my premium increment will be if I make a claim....

For that cost and depending on your excess, you should consider getting a full specialised hanmann, rieger, acs kit. You'll get that very unique look. Considering the aussie dollar is so great against the US dollar, I think it's 0.82cents today.....it might be cheaper to buy the kit from the US and shipped to Perth. do some more research to find out, but generally I get mostly all my car part and accessoeries from the US and Pay via Paylpal or Credit Card for some insurance cover too, I find you have more choice, cheaper and arrives fast.... You just have to know the exact part (numbers) you are getting and have done suffucient research (particularly in this forum) as it's unlikely you'll return it back to the US if it's wrong.
Also, be sure to factor in Australian GST and Customs Tax & Duties for import of goods over AUS$1000 in value. I usually add on an extra 20% to cover this.....if it's not avoidable.

Just wondering if you have you got NCB protection option ticked on you insurance policy? If so, for such a low excess I'd go the claim. Not 100% sure, but you maybe able to negotiate with your repairer to order the specialised kits (if they are available in Australia) aswell as opposed to thte OEM BMW parts when they do the replacement and repairs. Worth asking.

I am claiming insurance now, waiting for the assessor to come in on Monday...have a look and authorise the repair.
However, I checked and confirmed that I have NCB protection on my policy, so they confirmed me that my next year's preimum wont be affected by this claim, nor my NCB. But apparently, I forgot to tick the reduced excess option, so I gotta pay $750 excess...
Now I am thinking hard about should i have the Harmann kit done together as well...or should not?

Howdy,
Just took delivery of my 520d last week. Not exactly a screaming powerhouse, but no slouch either. Averaged 5.5L/100km on a highway run on the weekend. Not bad for a brand new engine.
A question for the Melbournites: has anyone had experience with German Auto Haus in Richmond? They're quite convenient for me and presumably a fair bit cheaper than the dealer, but I wouldn't trade that for quality.
Also more generally, what's the deal with the run in? The sales droid says it won't need an oil change and to just stick to the servicing schedule. The OBD shows an alarming 30,000km til the next oil change. Am I a bit old fashioned in taking it easy and doing a full change at about 2000km?
