I saw a report of an attempted carjacking of a Chevy Camaro in the US, but when the guys got the car, they didn't know how to drive a manual transmission and were stuck in the car, and were caught.

Maybe my manual transmission is also an anti-theft device in the US, where manual transmissions are somewhat unusual.

Didn't help me when my RX-7 was taken right out of my work parking lot. It wound up in a chop shop, they needed the parts.

I met with the one of the detectives working the case tonight...They traced the getaway car's plates to a car rental place in PA. They are getting all of the rental documents and all of the footage from the security cameras there as well.. It turns out that this 'crew' struck again today in Queens, NY. They took another e60 5 series from someone today. That person also ID'd two men and a woman 'getaway driver'..My wife only seeing the back of the drivers head when it happened to her said it was either a guy with really long hair or a girl...

I picked up my car tonight as well.. It is covered in black fingerprint dust..I drove home through torrential rain for about 40 minutes and none of it has come off - you can still see the fingerprints...Gotta get it detailed first thing - don't want my wife seeing that...

Wow thats scary! You're absolutely right about being aware of your surroundings and lock your doors when you get in the car if you dont feel safe.

Hope these guys get caught! Man and L.I. isnt a bad area as far as I know...

Keep us updated if you hear anything.

My wife and myself have been carjacked a few years ago with my 330d E46 by 3 guys with guns...

I prefer NOT to talk about it here because devoting too much honor to them

I perfectly know, even a simple noise becomes alarming, it will take a certain time before forgetting but I know (by experience) that you will arrive there.

A few words to tell you you're not alone...take care about your family, rest is just nothing

P.S. : At that moment, the BMW was gone, we also decided to get rid of our 2nd car (Audi A6 Avant) but finaly afterall, my wife decided to not play their game : we are still Bmw&Audi now and have no regrets about it !

Helsinki, Finland is not even close that what some great citys are in the world. Still some of my friends tease me that we live in Mogadishu Avenue. Yesterday I took some letters to the post and when I came back to the car it was locked. My wife did not like the surroundigns!

Sad that world has came to this! People (some) don't make diffenrence of mine or Yours!

They know the difference, but simply want to have 'Yours'.

Thank god your wife is fine and unhurt and your children were not present. I was held a gun in my head while my wife was in the car and baby sleeping in the child seat in my Range Rover a year ago. The guys didn realize I had a suv follwing me in the back with our body gaurds (three of them) and WELL armed. Moments later he was sorrounded by my men and almost instantly a few hundread people gathered and beat the hell out of the guy (its Bangladesh, there are 114 million ppl in a country size of Montana so loads and loads of ppl always around).

The carjackers sounds like are from a gang who probably got requirements to steal some numbers of e60. A large number of stolen cars are shipped out of north america (mostly mexico) to several third world countries , mostly Africa. These vehicles are sold at great prices to the riches of that part of the world and all documentation is done in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E, then they are re-expoted to their desired destinations. It very weird that even after much effort of the interpol nothing could be done. Local authorities in the destination countries almost never assists the interpol, so it goes on and on.

Glad to hear your wife is okay and sorry to hear that your are getting rid of your E60.

After hearing so many cases of carjacking on this forum, I'm glad that I am living in a place that is safe!
