My wife went to the drycleaners today in our '05 545 to drop off some clothes...She comes out of the cleaners and gets back into the car, which is parked right in front. She starts the car and someone knocks on the drivers side door. She looks to her left and this guy opens the door and tells her to get out of the car. She turns to the right to get her pocketbook, thinking she didn't want them to have her ID and know where we live, and the passenger side door opens. Another guy leans into the car and sticks a gun to her head and tells her to get the f___ out. She jumps out of the car. At this time, the owner of the drycleaners and several customers come running out of the front door and start screaming. The owner starts pushing the guy without the gun, yelling at them to get the hell outta there. The guy with the gun is pointing it back and forth between my wife and the other, so my wife tries to take cover. At this point, there are a bunch of people outside(it's a busy street) and they hop in a getaway car being driven by a friend of theirs. The car takes off, but luckily someone in the crowd took down the plate # (a Pennsylvania plate). The cops were called and arrive 5 minutes later...They put out an APB on the car and go to the surrounding stores and get all the security video tapes from them to see if they can get an ID of these a-holes. They surrounded the car with that yellow police tape until the Nassau County CSI dept. showed up. CSI took the car with them to dust it for prints and any other tests. We should be getting it back in a couple days.

The majority opinion is that my wife may have been followed or they have been watching the car as we have a custom license plate that is easily recognizeable. We are changing that immediately back to a random plate.

I cannot tell you how thankful I am to the owner of the drycleaners for risking his life for my wife. I am even more thankful that my 4 year old and 6 month old were not with my wife at the time...

I cannot stress enough how important it is, especially owning a 'luxury' car, to be very aware of your surroundings when walking to or entering your car - then lock the doors when you get in. For those with BMW assist, make sure you and your loved ones always have that phone # with them so G*d forbid someone were to take the car and children were inside, the car could be tracked instantly. There is nothing in this world more valuable than those you love...

Unfortunately, due to this episode, we are most likely going to get rid of the car to avoid bad memories...

Holy cow! I'm glad to hear your wife is ok and thankfully the children weren't with her.

Living in Miami, I've learned the hard way to always lock the door immediately and watch my surroundings.. it's a sad state of affairs.

Definitely change the tag.. I'm sure that didn't help.

Major kudos to the store owner who charged a guy with a gun. Major balls there! I guess you are a customer for life.

 

Wow, glad to see your family is okay, or your wife, but im sure your family is tramatized by the dramatic experience. what kind of license plate you have to make it so noticable? here in so. cal, pretty much everyone has a custom plate on. like EBMCS03 has a custom plate. well glad to see your wife is okay, but you get to miss out on driving the ultimate driving machine from a company of ideas.

 

The most important thing is your wife did not get hurt!

 

I'm sorry to hear bout your horror story, I'm glad everyone is safe. Sadly there are SCUM like that in this world who just won't make an honest living instead of stalking and robbing innocent people. I hope they are found and put away where they belong and become somebody's B!tch!

Ohh by the way, those finger print things suck. In movies and shows they also get the prints, real life CSI people suck. So dont count on anything unless your related to President Bush / Celebrity

I'm glad you're all OK & your wife did the right thing to get out of the car. Car Jackings are now getting more common in the UK & as such i had I-MOB installed on my car so not only can it be tracked by me & the emergency services if such an event happened, but i or the emergency services can shut my car down remotley by phone.
