My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
Working with the SA to see if they'll give me one as goodwill since the 4-yr warranty only expired in September and CPO won't cover. Fingers crossed. Should I ask for both to be replaced or is it OK to only change one? Will it affect handling to have one new and one original?
Car's going in on Thursday. Wish me luck.

i'd say go for the one if you're looking for goodwill.

What CPO doesn't cover that either? I'm hearing a lot of things CPO Warranty not covering.

Here's what's not covered:
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/CPO...NotCovered.aspx
Some people interpret this: "Radio/cassette player, telephone, navigation system, CD changer, or any components of those systems" as meaning the iDrive is not covered since it is a component of those systems, but my SA told me that iDrive is covered since you can also argue that it is a component of your heating system which is covered.

Sorry, I'm going to bump this up only this one time. Can someone with expertise give me some advice on whether I should replace the pair or if replacing only one strut is OK? Or at least if this is the norm? Obviously the decision is entirely up to me, but it would be nice if I could hear some opinions or past experiences. Thanks to all. Joe

Joe,
Talked to JIC about your problem. The owner said if the car is older than 5 yrs you should probably replace both front shocks. If it's under, you can get away with just replacing one.
Hope this helps.

definetly only replace in pairs. otherwise one side(suspension) will be tighter than the other.
