Default Anything else it could be rather than new torque converter??

I'm experiencing an issue with bouncing revs at around 1500-2000 rpm. Now a few people are saying it's the torque converter but rather than just go ahead a fork out £££ on a new one etc

Surely it could be something else?
I've also heard it could be a swirl flap problem, is there a way I can disconnect to see if it gets better ?

Any other ideas ? I know I need a new temp sensor which is ordered.

Anyone experienced this issue and it not just be the dreaded torque converter

Unfortunately I'm low on ££ for a month so a garage will have to wait.

torque converters can "usually" be heard when they start malfunctioning. On my merc i had an issue with my torque converter and i was able to disable it temporarily to see if the problem went away and it did so i replaced the torque converter . that could be done with STAR (equivalent of ISTA/D for mercs). Wonder if you can do the same with BMWs.

Hearing nothing mate really just juddering around 1500-2000 revs but goes if I speed through it. I know there's a way of resetting the transmission somehow but never heard of disabling it

My friend was having the same issue. He took it to BMW 2 weeks ago and they did a software update and changed a hose and he has not had the issue since. I will check with him to see what they actually did and post it.

Ok. I talked with my friend and he said he is still having the issue. After the software update he said it got better but it is still happening. He went to 2 other dealerships and they could not pin point what the issue was. Its something that I have been trying to track down for 5 months. My diagnosis was not the torque converter. The way his is happening it led me to believe it has something to do with his compressor (a power issue somewhere). I forget the part I wanted to replace but has to do with when the clutch engages the part pick up the extra load and it seemed to be malfunctioning. I could be going the wrong way with it but I have tried literally everything.

your not disabling the transmission, your disabling the lockup clutch on the torque converter. in any case a reset of adaptation values should help. You'll need BMW software tool to do that. Might be a good time to find an experienced indy or at least somebody with some experience with BMW software. The Pedal trick that you'll read about on the forum is not for resetting adaptation values. All that does is trick your trans into thinking you drive like a maniac and that will change shifting patterns. what you want is to reset adaptation values.
