Hi guys,

My buddy just purchased this and wants me to help him install in his 2006 535xi. He doesn't have NAV and I don't think he has a CD changer either. I searched and read a bunch of posts. Have to admit that I'm a little more confused due to the conflicting info.

Basic questions:
- Without NAV & CD changer - will we require programming just for the Aux kit? I know programming is necessary for the full iPod integration kit.
- Is it a complicated install?

Any comments / suggestions are appreciated!

By the way, price just dropped to $32 so it's a great option for others in the same boat - if it works...

Description
The Auxiliary1 Audio Input Kit provides a direct audio input into the radio that allows the customer to plug in a MP3 player, portable CD player, cassette player, or any other audio device which has an audio output such as a headphone jack. The kit consists of a cable, mounting plate, mounting hardware, and installation instructions. The input cable plugs into the back of the in-dash radio control unit and has a standard 3.5mm stereo female audio connector on the opposite end. A mounting plate attaches the audio connector firmly to the vehicle?s glove box for the 3, 5 series, X3, and X5. The connector is mounted in the center console coin tray for the Z4 Roadster. The customer will be required to supply a suitable cable that connects from their audio device to the standard 3.5mm mini stereo audio connector as connections will vary depending on the device. *For vehicles 9/2002 and on.

No replies? I'm interested in this too. According to this post:

Re-programming is required.

Daym just called the stealership, they said $220 and 3 hrs to "reprogram" the iDrive. My car has no nav or cdc. Problem is that we have only 2 dealerships in Utah and both are owned by the same guy.

Third party BMW garage shop quoted $50-150. If it's $50, then I'll do it.

I'm gonna be taking a road trip to Socal end of July, any recommendations for places that would offer a more reasonable price?

You will need programming if you do not have the CD changer.

I'm not sure if this part is even compatible with our cars because we don't have a conventional radio like the e39 did...

If it's the same as this part, then I think it should work:

Either way, you will need to have the dealer program it for it to work.

The two wires that come off the Aux have to be pluged into two spare pins on the back of the main CCC connector. So the CCC will need taking out to get access to this. Don't think it matters about CD Changer. There is a installation adobe file for it somewhere on here I think which lists the pin numbers. I fitted it myself to the proffesional Sat Nav I have so don't know about other non sat version. You then need it coding so that it shows up on the option on the IDrive. I got charged £150 for Aux input and MP3 playback which I had gone at the samn time. Coding is usually charged at a flat rate.

Thing is if you don;t have NAV then you don't have CCC - you have MOST, I believe. So those instructions won;t work in this case.
