I thought the "Check engine level" screen only applies to the new 3.0L engines. The 545i does not have the
oil level sensor built in.

ah ok cool, i noticed that in your sig with the update to CIP 20.xxx you got MP3 functionality? my dealer told me that the car could have that and that it was a missprint in the owner's manual, and maybe with the nav slot you could load a disk in there.
i have noticed this CD plays after car is shut off, this happend after the last update (last year) when they gave me at first, the UK version with every single feature. as well as things the car doesn't have, like the engine oil thing, something to control the lift gate on the E61 and the PDC screen.
guess it's time to get an upgrade, how much does it cost. the car is out of warrenty, 81,xxx Km's now so what would be the estimated cost?

I got the S/W upgraded this week...I don't know the level that I have. I asked the SA for the level and his response was CIP Level...huh? Progman level...huh? It took them Friday, Sat and Mon to load the new s/w. Said the load kept crashing on them.
Anyway, the one thing that I noticed was a screen for Engine Oil Level. However, upon selection, I get a message which says sthg like "Can't determine the Oil Level". Maybe it was not meant to be for my now-two-model-years-old 545. Anyone?

Technical Service
SUBJECT
"Engine Oil Level" Menu Option is Displayed After Reprogramming
MODEL
E60 (5 Series) with N62 engine produced from 7/2003 up to 9/2005
E63, E64 (6 Series) with N62 engine produced from 7/2003 up to 9/2005
SITUATION
After reprogramming with Progman V21.1 or V21.2 , the menu option for "Engine Oil Level" is then incorrectly displayed in the CID under the "Service" selection. When selected, it does not function.
CAUSE
The cause is a MASK or CCC coding error depending on the vehicle option level. Only vehicles currently at the integration level, or Vehicle data status: E060-06-03-515, are affected.
Important Note:
These vehicles are not equipped with the hardware to support this function.
PROCEDURE
On a customer complaint basis only, Perform a "Complete Encoding" using Progman V22 or higher (Target data status: E060-06-06-510).
This path must be followed to enter the correct coding data into either the MASK or CCC.
Refer to SI B09 05 01 for information regarding this Progman procedure.
WARRANTY
For the appropriate labor operations, please refer to the KSD system.

Thanks, cobradav. I can live with this screen since it consistently takes my dealership 3 days to load the new CIP.
From what I can tell from this bulletin, V22 fixes this problem which means that V22 is available. Why, then, did the dealership load V21.x on my car? Did they not have V22? Highly unlikely since this bulletin is dated May '06. Gets me mad
