19 fixes bugs in the E60's FTM and the battery charging...
19.1 will still not have MP3 for nav pro cars.
20 will have it, release is not earlier than December.

That is bad news Iceman.

[quote name='stafli' date='Sep 14 2005, 08:23 AM']My experience is that an "integer" SW update (19) is new features and bug fixes. After that 19.1 will come to fix the bugs (often minor) caused by the 19 upgrade... Next major release with SW 20.x will add new features like MP3 for Nav Pro-cars...

Is it always true ? AFAIK CIP 16 did not bring anything but 16.1 or 16.2 did provide perspective nav.
And 17.1 killed by amber LEDs
Not sure there is any rule like in the software market

There at least tends to be such a rule in software development; however, I am not sure that the rule never is violated. It would be nice if 19 added something new of significance. And, there always is the issue of what constitutes a "new feature."

I know, but this is almost 100% sure now, that 20 will not be released before December 2005! As allways, BMW is pushing it back. But this is the first time that I know it is on the list.
And 20 will be the next MAJOR update.
19.0 and 19.1 only have minor bug fixes.

I am having many problems with bluetooth on my current CIP version and also with using the Idrive in general (scrolling between the 4 'categories' can happen at the wrong moment and I can end up in the wrong place sometimes).

Does anyone know if these bugs are resolved in the 19s? I think I have 17.x now.

Ice - how 100% is 100% here ? (not to question your worldly wisdom )

I have been holding-off waiting for my next dealer visit so that I can get the latest SW while I am in, mainly I am after MP3 playback. Dec is a long time to wait for the other issues that I need seeing to (mainly creaks/rattles). I dont want to go for 19.x only to find 20.x offers some great new stuff (holographic displays of naked dancing girls would be nice )

Gosh - this SW business really makes life interesting. When will it ever stop eh?

It's 95% that 19.1 will still not have MP3, and that MP3 will be released not earlier than December.

It is on the "To-Do" list for version 20!

The remaining 5% are just remaining, since it is still possible that it will be pushed back again...

Marty, As you have bus nav the latest s/w should give you mp3, but check with the dealer first. Mine is going in on the 26th Sept for service plus rattles/squeaks etc and maybe s/w 19.x. Benhams tell me that due to early build date mp3 will not be available. They had a data sheet which gave earliest build dates that could have mp3 activated by s/w update, I think for bus nav cars it was Sept 04. They suggested I may need a new radio unit. I have asked them to send a PUMA to Bracknell to see if mp3 can be provided. Previously when I requested BFD to be activated by s/w update they also said my vehicle was too early for this function but they sent PUMA to Bracknell who provided additionl s/w to be installed before the cip update and all was well. I will post after my visit to dealer.

Lack of MP3 with Nav was one of the reasons that I didnt opt for Nav. I wanted MP3 integrated more, Nav I can get when I need it from Tom Tom. Still feel your frustrations though guys...
