CIP 19.0 is only being released to the factory on 5 September and to dealers after that

I've got a silly question. My ride has been updated with 16.2. I did not go for 17. & 18. If and when I finally get the CIP 19.0 update, will I miss whatever good that was updated in the previous two software upgrades?

No. each update is retroactive and includes all past updates!

They are if it is required as part of a recall or to remedy a warranty related issue. You simply can't walk in and ask for an update becuase you want it. Search the board, I had the transmission slam (harsh downshift from 2nd to 1st) and was able to bring them the SIB (service bulliten) number. They updated the software no questions asked and the slam is gone. Find an issue if you want/think you need an update.

My update was free.

I suggest you do what I did:

My car reached 15,000 miles, and it was time for service. So I made a list on my computer, detailing all my issues.

Some examples:

1. Radio always turned on after car start, even if it was muted when parked previously.

2. Steering wheel position memory not functioning properly.

I wrote along with these items the software version # that fixes the problem, proving that I have done the research and know it's an issue.

I gave the list to my service rep, and they did my reprogram for free along with the oil service.

So... find the thread with the CIP #s and fixes... figure out which problems you have, and point them out to the dealer. They should update you if you have a known issue.

I would actually say that they are retroactive when it comes to the "good stuff". Any new bug introduced with a previous version will be corrected (some people actually think a bug is a feature....
