Hi guys! Replaced my almost dead battery today with Gold duralast from Autozone. After reading some posts about registering, I was wondering if there are people out there driving with unregistered baterries, or most of you really paid the stealer to register the new one. So, unregistered users, please step forward.... Thanks!

Even though it may be tempting please refrain from replies like: "if you can afford the bmw you should afford to register your battery"

I replaced my battery with an Interstate Battery about 3 years ago. This battery was an exact replacement. The dimensions and specs down to a tee. I never got a straight answer from the local stealerships regarding registration so I opted not too register. Knock on wood, no issues here. Does that mean you should not register the new battery......no. Just saying I did not. My first scheduled service after the battery was installed (about 3 months later), I asked my SA if I should get the registration done. He said if I had no issues, there was no need to. Again, I am not saying you do not need or should not register your battery. I am just giving you my experience.

I never registered my ETX30L motorcycle battery when I installed it in my 550i. Installed it months ago.

Okay English,

Most legit shops have a diagnostic system to read DTCS etc. We happen to have a SnapOn Modis (like most shops) they are like 9k new, just got the new software update which is 10.4. I had it on an 04 530i today and found that they now included battery registration. The shop has to have the Euro option on their Motis scanner with the S-44 key (that links into the obd connector so the car will recognize the scanner). Does that help? If not PM me.
