Just wondered if any of you guys over the Atlantic will be visiting Europe at all. If so arrange a test drive in one of the diesel E60's and give us Diesel Fans your findings.

I travel to Germany about once a month. I have driven diesel powered cars from BMW, MB, VW and Peugot in the last year.

The new diesels are outstanding. Those of us who remember the noisy, unreliable GM diesels of the early 80's should know the new engines are nothing short of fantastic. They are quiet, smooth, smoke-free and suprisingly resopnsive for a turbo engine. And you just gotta love that diesel torque!

If I was living in Europe, I'd have a diesel.

BMW(Munich) says we will definately be getting diesels here in the U.S! Most likely '07/'08 time frame.

Merv,

Next trip is at the end of April. I rent mostly from Hertz and Sixt. The selection of BMWs is limited. I've reserved a C-class for the next trip.

Which European car rental firms feature BMWs?

Not sure who would rent BMW's, I wouldn't have thought a 535d would be available. Why not test a 535d at a nearby dealership for free. Just tell them you're gonna move to the UK and want a small car
Failing that, where are you going in the UK? If its near Birmingham come and try mine!
