For the three days a year when we have weather like this, snow tyres arent really needed. Decent summer tyres with tread and sensible driving can get you most places. Most of the problems today have been caused by bad driving and to be honest snow tyres would have just made people drive faster and have bigger accidents.

There are as many 4x4 s stuck round here as there are 2wd cars as a result of their drivers believing that extra traction allows them defy the laws of physics.

To be honest there is nothing that beats driving while looking out of the side window with full opposite lock and a bit of a scandinvian flick to get you round some bends

Monday's morning was a real doomsday in Luxembourg ...
There was snow, freezing rain, countless accidents and roads blocked till horizon...
As some of you may know, Luxembourg-city is a very particular small city (with less than 80K habitants), but closely surrounded by 3 countries (Belgium, France and Germany), which supply about 150K people (estimates) daily coming only to work in the city (so called: fr. "frontaliers") . So you can imagine what a road chaos a small snow can create in such place... (I'm coming from Germany, by the way - so, I am one of them for quite some time now)

Enough to say: I was one of the first to arrive in the building on Monday morning, when I parked at around 10AM there were just couple of cars in the parking-lot...

One friend (who comes to the office from Thionville: French city only about 35kms away from Luxembourg-ville) left home at 6:30AM to be sure to get her kids to school on time and arrived in the office at.... 10:30! Probably her life-commute-record !
Another one, a girl coming form Belgian city Arlon called at 10:20 to say, that it does not make any sense, she's been completely blocked for two hours on the motorway already, she's too stressed now to go to work, and she takes the next exit, u-turns and goes back home...
My Spanish boss who's life motto is "what are winter tires?" arrived that day only after lunch...

Wow... never before have I seen how so little snow can make so many arrive so late....

(sorry, did not take any pictures on the road, I'm way toooo sleepy in the mornings on the Autobahn for that....)
have one from the living room's window at home though:
