That pic is of the LCI but those new rear lights are not the LEDs. LEDs are used for the amber directionals and side "position markers" only.

The radiating lights are not the LEDs; they are the CELIS light guide system (used on the e39, the 6 series, new 7 series, and 3-series coupe).

"HELLA has developed a new interior-lighting system under the name of "CELIS," which stands for CEntral LIghting Systems. It is a modular concept, and makes use of decentralized light sources. These lighting modules enable interior lighting to be created with light-guides, and integrates important elements in addition to the usual functions of comfort and safety."

I think they look fantastic!! I want to retrofit my e60 with them. The actual LED lights are for the brake lamps and turn signal lamps (and probably side markers as well).

Those LED looks like an ad sign to me, the ones on the E46 coupe did a much better job. Now that's sweet.

Looks like the red brake lights are CELIS light bars and only the turn signals are LED dots.
FWIW, I think the CELIS light bars are ugly on the E92 coupe.

You're right about the CELIS light guides and the LED turn indicators and side markers. However, I think the brake lamps are actually incandescant bulbs and not LED's. I don't know why but this seems to be the trend. On the E70 X5 BMW used CELIS for the red rear parking/driving lights, but they used regular (incandescent) light bulbs for the brake lights. I think they should have used LED's for the brake lights because of the faster turn on time vs. regular bulbs, but at least on the X5, and probably on the E60 too they are using regular incandescent bulbs.

Question is: are they retrofitable?

Another question is - why does BMW persist using light bulbs...? Too expensive with LED only?
