just a thought.. if most of e60 owners are selling their car after 2-3 years there must be buyers right. and those are the ones who put real milage on them. it's also interesting to see what are the common problems that may accur after 100k. i am planning to keep mine for a while and it's better to know what to expect
I just hitted 110,000 miles this weekend, 2004 , 530I. Most miles have been on the Autobahn between Belgium and Germany, not serious issues, I have changed brakes once. I'm the original owner and also plan to keep it for a while.

No interest in going after a mileage record here. Tastes, styles, technology changes make that proposition very unappealing to me. Most times, oldie cars age like oldie songs, who cares after a while. My kids called my 97 E Class a "Flintstone" for a lot of the years I had it. I couldn't argue. Parts wear out, even the most pampered auto can give an owner problems and, even if repaired, in the end you still have an old car.
I will take new technology, style and newer parts anytime but there are some sweet oldie BMWs on the road on ocassion.

i just crossed 48k on the 545 with only the mechatronic issue coming and going every few months......

replaced the entire cooling system in my '99 328I which had 120k on it when I sold it - but still drove well.

the cars are worth any maintenence cost imo.

There is an overwhelming trend of starter failures on the 525i/530i between 60-80k. The denso units just crap out prematurely for some reason. I replaced mine with a bosch for $168. Also my CAB went bad $73 for the pair, windshield washer bottle drips ($5 for a pump screen), and the lower radiator hose connection craped out ($48). Another problem area with the e60 is the off button for the climate control. Its a very thin plastic that cracks and breaks around the LED.

Hi guys

Just bought an E61 525d with 165000kms on the counter at four years old. Car has full history print out and I have to say is in generally very good condition for it's age/kilometres. Hope it doesn't decide to start causing trouble now it has a new owner!
