Default any ill effect on 545 if I run two different brand tires on rear?

Recently I found out why one of my rear tire kept on going flat, as the inside corner was chewed up to the steel cords.

So I only replaced one that was damaged, but a different brand than what I have on there now.

But the guy at the tire shop said, he recommend that i replace both of them otherwise it will ruin the diff.

I've never heard of this, so I just wanted to make sure and double check with other owners. Has anyone ever heard of any bad things happening to the differential of our car with running two different brand tire, although the same size.

I'm planning to order some wheels and tires this coming January, so I rather save for the new wheels and tires than to spend them on stock 18's.

Wouldn't ruin the diff, but could potentially throw off the traction control system, which looks for differences in relative wheel speeds to detect a slipping wheel.

I think the bigger question is why your rear tires are wearing differently from each other. I'd get that problem diagnosed and fixed before anything else.

Agreed, it's not going to hurt your diff. But even in these days of traction control and DSC, it's still not a good idea to have different tires on the same axle.

Edit: And also agreed, you need to find out why the tire wore like that. Sounds like an alignment, at least, is coming up.

+1 " it's still not a good idea to have different tires on the same axle." Front to back as well. Even in the days of anti lock only it was a very bad idea.

Can you confirm that the two rear tires are the same size? If they're different sizes that might be why he made that comment. Either way, you're fixing the symptom not the problem. Figure out what the issue is with your alignment and it would probably be a good idea to have matching tires in the rear.

By the way, you'll need matching tires to get the alignment right.

yea, the tire shop suggested an alignment, but I just thought his comment was another sales pitch
and just wanted to get a few other opinions before I make a decision
