Antenna diversity
In a bmw e60 05 if checked forums about where people have issues with central looking distance and it' due to the diversity so iv taken of and clean the contacts and its a bit better what causes them to weaken any good fix tanxs all

they can fail due to age. they are easy to replace and do not require any programming. they are available on Ebay, just make sure you pick the right one. you key fob battery may be failing too.
