Yes, the battery of the 550i is in the trunk. Ever notice how the V8 5-series is quieter on the road than the I6 cars? Maybe they have more sound dampening in the 550i as ballast.

Ballast? Here's an idea for some ballast for the V8 guys out there...

Curious, does the 550i locate the battery in the trunk like my bro's 740il? The 535 is under the hood so that could be part of the difference
Under the hood? The e60's battery is in the right side of the trunk, to help offset the weight of the driver.

i believe I6 engined vehicles carry the battery under the hood, and v8+v10s carry in trunk

I'm still not sold -- show me some pics of a battery under the hood!

im not sold on that either, my E90 330 has the bat in the same location as the e60 550...its easier to access in the E90 though.

My '89 E30 M3 has the battery in the trunk, both of my E39 540i's had the battery in the trunk, my 2004 E60 545i had the battery in the trunk, and my 2008 E60 550i has the battery in the trunk.

Even though the OP is banned, I'd like to see the proof that the I6 engined E60's have the battery in the front...

hmmm, after taking the picture, i'm starting to doubt my assumption. I only see the (+) and (-) connectors to the battery, but not the actual battery itself.

was i mistaken to think this would be the battery under the hood?
