Hi
I got my E60 in May of this year. Since then I have only done 5000 miles. While travelling on a motorway a warning screen came up telling me that I was low on oil. It went off and as I rolled into a service station another message came up saying that the oil level was below the minumum.
I topped it up with a litre of fully synthetique, however the engine was very warm. Since then it has been okay and no warnings have come up.
However I am concerned about the oil consumption as the car is teling me I dont need a service for another 8000 miles. Is this normal? :'(

I had to add one and a half liters of oil over my first 4000 km. I got the seame warnings as you did. Not a drop since.
Likely due to new engine consuming more than the usual amount of oil.

My Sep. build xiT has no dipstick! We/they are putting an awful lot of faith in a sensor and computer. Thank g** for the warranty.

My advisor suggested that after 1000 miles to come in and have my oil topped off, as the first miles would require more oil. Did just that. So far, 5500 miles, no prob.
Don't think you've got anything to worry about.

Thanks for the info guy's. I will keep an eye on it and see. Interestingly this is my 6th Beemer and I have never had top up the oil before at such low mileage.
