Had my car for almost 12 months and only 5700 miles to date. Should I change my oil even though the indicator will not come on for another 4900 miles per the on board computer.

If I decide to have the dealer change my oil along with other warranty repairs, will it be no charge (free) or will I have to pay? How much does it cost anyway for an oil change? I have read here about $70-$90.

Have the oil changed. At the minimum, your dealer will do a free change every year even though you didn't drive the requisite miles. I have the same issue where I drive 5-6K per year and they are more than happy to give me a free oil change every year.

Mine is scheduled for its first oil change on 6/25. Free of charge although way under miles.

Check your manual, pages 3 and 4, if I remember. It states that you are entiled to a oil change, at a minimum, on an annual basis.

Yes, have it change. if you check your manual, it states it in bold print. while you're at it, get your i-drive updated. make sure you go to a competent/good dealer for service. i just serviced mine at low mileage.

Yes, if it's "not" performed under the free maintenance program, the dealers charge $90-$110 for an oil change. I was in the same situation as you a month ago. My car had 6,500 miles and I was thinking should I change the oil or wait until 15k. I called several dealers for a price quote. One dealer said they'll change it for free, but they will charge me once the recommended 15k oil change comes around. Another dealer said no doubt I'll be charge for in-between free maintenance oil changes. The last dealer was adament that I should follow the owner's manual and just change it at 15k. (Seems awfully long time for an oil change, IMO) Needless to say, I decided to change the oil because what's $100 to keep your own car running nice and smooth for the long run.

I would just change it at 7.5K at a reputable shop that does oil changes (no Jiffy Lube or other crap places like that) and get the major services done at the dealership so you have record of it (15k, 30k, 45k, etc.)... This way it's recorded on your VIN and if you ever decide to sell the car, it shows on your Carfax

I just had mine done for free. It was due for an annual oil change.

Good question. I do that in two - three months just driving around Houston.
