My Ride: 2004 545i / Orient Blue (I think) / Tan int / 116's Wheels / ... my favorite option, the HEATED steering wheel! Previous cars retired: 2006 Corvette Z51, 2002 Corvette Coupe, 2002 Mustang, 1997 Maxima, 1994 Camry, 1990 Supra None, and I mean none compare to this 545i. The 06 Corvette was faster, but not by much...

Ok Masters, here is another Newb question that needs answered.

I am thinking of doing a second set of "summer" rims and tires. Do I have to worry about tire pressure sensors or recalibration of the tire pressure monitoring system, or can I be lazy, switch them out, and do the recalibrate right through the iDrive section in the service tab?

Thanks, a newb patowan...

Chances are it won't even notice you've swapped tyres, as long as the pressures on the same axle are the same. You can just reset it via iDrive if it does complain.

Sweet! That's what I was hoping for. Any issues with changing rim size?

No issues at all with upsizing wheels.

One small thing to confirm -- what is the build date of your car? On cars built before around 3/2006, you'll be fine since there are no sensors installed in the wheels. You won't even have to keep the pressures the same, etc. as described above. You'll just reinitialize the FTM system through iDrive when you do your changeover. If your car was built after the 3/2006 date (I see it's a 545i from your avatar so I think you're okay), then you have sensors mounted in the wheels so you'll have to buy another set of sensors for your alternate setup...
