Others have reported the same thing. I think that a CIP/Progman update was supposed to cure the problem, but I don't recall which one. Maybe CobraDav will show up with the specific answer.

OK good, I'm not crazy.
I've had my car for a month. It does the same thing. I'll leave and when I come back, I'm two songs further on the CD. Never have timed exactly how far it goes forward but 4 minutes sounds about right.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
This is old news, but may be remedied (or worsened) by software upgrade
What I discovered this week was that, using the on-steering wheel programmable button, with a CD left in the dash unit, then switching modes to AM, FM, CD, it treats the 2 CD players discreetly. Kinda nice, as I had a new CD in the dash, and am still "learning" the music, so it's nice to be able to go back to it whenever I want. Haven't noticed if it's the same place I left it though....
Cheers,
Ray Hull

My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
Mine does it also
I thought it was normal - the cd continues while the car is "shutting down"
I thought it was kind along the same lines as the car will restart without the key for a little while after you take out the key

A friend of mine who drives a 2005 911 has the exact same problem. the cd player continues to play for a bout 10 min after turning off the car. its very odd, bmw and porsche cannot use the same cd player technolegy can they?
I don't know who's the oem for BMW's cd player though...

Add me to the list of those experiencing "ghost in the CD player." I've also found that the car likes to change the audio sources while it's off. Sometimes it will switch to the FM radio and sometimes to satellite radio. I just laugh at it...
My car (550i) was delivered about a week ago and it was produced at the very end of January. I have at least CIP v.20 since MP3 playback works, but I'm not sure of the exact version.

I couldn't figure out what was happening. Each time I got into the car the music was on a different track. Now I know!

My in-dash cd player does the same thing. Service updated the software to correct the problem, but it still does it. I guess I will just have to live with it
