I spoke with my dealer today and the result of my PUMA case for the I-Drive screen problem is a complete reprograming. I guess the good news is I'll get the upgrade to V25... I hope it solves the problem.
err....mine started after my V25 upgrade

Thumbs up

Upgraded software two weeks ago to correct rough running and other issues. Solved all problems and car is running much better and shifts much smoother, no issues with voice recognition BUT Just got the blank screen, yesterday! Shut off car for about 10 minutes, restarted and completely dark, shut off and started to no avail, drove with no audio, navigation. Stopped to gas up and upon restart everything returned to normal. 2006 550. Has anybody gotten a resolution from their dealer yet, no point in bringing in if a software glich that will be solved in a future release.

I've had the v25 upgrade approx. 4 weeks - IDrive has failed to boot up 7 times now and counting - problem disappears if one waits for a few minutes and you try again - this fault has only began occurring since v25 upgrade - actually it happened when I picked the car up after the update from the dealer - my dealer has no clue as to what the issue/problem is - only can re-program. Well, I'd rather more science was applied here as it now seems an epidemic is on the way judged by the comment here, it seems we have a 'Progman v25 no IDrive boot club'....................

It did it again today. This time it was on start-up about 45 minutes after shut down. When I restarted the car, it just stuck on the BMW logo. Re-boot did not work, but it eventually rebooted all on its own after some of the lines in the logo went black and it faded away altogether. When it came back, my SAT preferences were all showing Weather 1!!! It rebooted yet again and after a really long time returned to normal. I still can't decide if it is hardware or software. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
My 545 was in for service today to get V25 and I also reported this problem. My SA said they found a fault code and applied a patch from BMW that fixes this problem. I pick up the car in the a.m.

Would you mind asking your dealer what the specifics are around the patch used (i.e. SIB number), so we can go to our dealer and have them ensure the patch is applied?

I just returned from picking up the car. The SA and mechanic weren't available so I can't give you any more details. The service order simply says it was fixed as part of the V25 load. The SA said on the phone yesterday that the tech found a fault code and BMW gave him a patch/fix for it. Maybe an SIB is coming soon? V25.00.05 ?? I'll be sure to provide an update in a few days as whether the problem is really fixed or not.

BTW, V25 is really nice. Very clean looking. It seems to be faster, but also seems to hang for some time while loading the contents of the NAV DVD. I got a nice mirror tag from BMW telling me about the update and a phone number to call if I get confused by it...

Mine happened yesterday, i ran to the store real quick and when i came out i just had the gray screen, nothing worked, no music and i-drive knob was spinning freely. Sadly, i drove home and let the car sit for a while and started it again and now it works, i am really weary because i am heavily dependent on my navigation and this would be horrible if it happened to me during a long distance trip. FYI: I just had the V25 update and went in again yesterday for the MP3 reprogram, could this be the cause?

I had the same problem twice on my 530d touring: screen was off (changing from totally off to grey), no music, no CD/DVD eject, i-drive knob spinning freely. First time BMW service man disconnected the battery and everything was ok again, second time I parked the car overnight and in the morning it was ok.
I just had prog. 25 update.
My dealer said maybe an hardware problem, but it never happened before the new prog.
I am now waiting it happen again...in the meantime a new i-drive hardware has been ordered under garanty.
IMO it is a software problem: maybe solved in the next update...

I agree tha it is probably software. So far, since they claimed to have fixed it earlier this week, it has not recurred for me. I think they have a patch or something for it that they can apply to V25, or maybe it is just a minor upgrade to V25. In any case, it seems to work.
