I don't know what the heck BMW is thinking - this can KILL their business, especially, since they are planning to come out with a lot more turbo-charged engines in the near future. Downright embarrassing and is worth international attention IMHO - if this happened with Toyota, it would've made 11 o'clock news!
In case anyone at BMW is reading this, I am one customer who bluntly decided to keep my NA I-6 and NOT trade up to an N54-engined BMW solely because of the HPFP issues I witnessed my friends were having. RI DI CU LOUS !!!

I agree with you entirely. BMW has to fix this issue pronto and simply providing a 10 years 120K mile warranty on the HPFP is not the final answer -- it's a Band Aid.

BMW HAS to fix this HPFP problem. I will never buy a 535 without a certification that this problem has been PERMANENTLY fixed and without regular tires.
All members here know about this problem and the vast majority of us will never touch a x35 because of this issue. The rest of the members who buy them, do so at their own risks and should not expect sympathy when it will invariably need repairing. It's like the people who buy houses next to an airport and then go on complaining about all the noise. The only way BMW (or any company) will listen is by voting with your wallet. Simply don't buy their 135, 335, and 535 and when they feel the effect on their wallet they will fix the problem. It's that simple.

I just "Downgraded" to a 530ixt due to my 535i HPFP issues...
Replacing a mechanical pump 4x a year is not a solution... most people don't even change there oil that much.
Power and Fuel econ are awesome, but does no good if you are sitting at the garage or on the side of the road waiting for a tow.
I Pray that the N55 solves the issues with the N54. I just won't be a Guenna pig for it, Sorry 5 gt owners best of luck....

Additional update - the car has been in the shop for one entire work day and they are still "working" on it. (Should I tell them to just replace the fuel pump and check the fuel injectors?)

The dealership has now confirmed that it was the HPFP and the car is now getting reprogrammed. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the problem is solved and that I can pick up my car tonight.
What updates have their been to the programming since July 2008?

I used to have my car going back to the dealer all the time a couple of years ago with the "reduced power-engine malfunction" warning. All they did was that they finally reprogrammed the car and it has been doing good until recently when BMW blamed Bad Gas for the stuttering/vibrations. As far as I know, they did not change the HPFP in my car.

Does reprogramming occur after a new HPFP is installed. Sorry I don't have a clue about these mechanical issues.

I am not sure. I think the programming is independent from the HPFP. I am guessing to eliminate all possible sources for the "reduced power-engine malfunction" warning they are reprogramming the car.
