the low battery signal popped up a few months ago in my 550i. At that time it was less than 2 years old. I still havent replaced the battery because the stupid BMW dealers here are charging around 1200$ for a new one. Im gonna find some other battery now lol

That sucks, if you were in the States the dealer would replace the battery for free on a car 3 years old or less. I never did understand how the warranties are so different in other countries.

Been getting high battery discharge warning the last couple weeks and getting the dealers to check it out tomorrow. My SA already told me it's going to run around $600. Wondering if I should just buy one from Sears or Kragens. Just feels a little funny to throw in a "cheap" aftermarket battery on my car though but seems also stupid to pay that much if it's just a battery. Hmm...

An oem battery should last you a good 4 years, some nearly 5.
I started noticing some hard starts at 4 1/2 yrs of oem battery life (approx. 53k). I didn't want to take any chances so I replaced mine with a battery from BatteriesPlus.
You should be good for another year, at least.

I haven't had any luck with a battery in my E60.I'm on my third. Never had any trouble with any other of myBMws.

If it wasn't from a BMW dealer can you tell me where you got it from?
The indicator on my battery is green i.e. fully charged, however I am getting random error messages when I turn the ignition. Slightly different error messages each time - cruise control error; fuel pump error; active steering error; tranmission error etc. Once the engine starts I don't get any more errors until the following morning when I start her up again. Time for a new battery maybe.
Thanks

Generally speaking, most batteries are guaged by years in service. As you can see a battery can "crap out" at any given time regardless of miles or years. With that said, anytime you walk into shop to ask for a new battery or to have one checked, first thing they usually ask you is "How old's the battery?" and not "How many miles has the battery logged?". The average driver drives around 12k to 15k miles a year and that would equate to roughly 60k miles in 4/5 years.
