So.. an hour ago at a crossing, I stopped because the car in front of me was waiting to cross.. and guess what? The moron in front of me decides to back towards me, probably because he's managed to get a bit far into the crossing. And hey? What do I do? I hit the horn, frantically honking

However, the guy in his 20 year old Toyota Hilux decides not to stop, and continues until he hits the front fender. His towbar hits the license plate - and a horrendeous creaking is quite audible in the cabin. It turns out the gap between the fender and the hood has become quite a lot bigger.. I'll have the damage appraised tomorrow.. and luckily the moron's insurance will cover the damage. And hopefully the fender will be restored to it's previous condition.

Btw.. the guy excused himself saying that he "couldn't see too much" because apparantly there were several "blind zones" (hey, that's called a dirty rear window!) and obstacles behind him! When I got my driver's license, I learnt not to not reverse without ensuring that nothing is in my way - however, this guy must have missed out on that one.

I just had to let out some steam

Bummer! Pretty much the same thing happened to me in my M3 many years ago. I couldn't back up because another car was right behind me so all you can do is much lay on the horn and "enjoy" a front-row seat to the destruction.

I'm sure everything will be fixed up so that you'll be as good as new -- don't lose too much sleep over it!

Hehe.. thanks. I won't be losing much sleep over this.. but having the view to the show, and being unable to do anything to stop the car in front made me feel utterly helpless

das: Nice one with the Xi.. bet it would be a great car for a track day too

This guy also offered to pay the damages himself.. but it doesn't seem like a sound solution to the problem. I'll also be needing a rental when the car goes in for the fix, and I don't have the time to relay bills and everything to this lunatic in the Hilux.

Was that ALL the way over it like the Hummer never noticed anything at all?

The front of my car fit directly under hit bumper. When he accelrated the back of his car went up on to of mine. I needed a new hood, heatlight, and bumper. The hummer didnt havea scratch because the steel bumper was on top. He had a little chip underneath the bumper.

Yes, I know what you mean. In my case, it happened so fast, but it was like slow motion:

I see the reverse lights come on, and the rear of the truck visibly appear to lift up as it accelerated, then the impact. Arrrgh.

I feel your pain. But, it's just a car. I wish you all the best in getting it fixed...once he sees the estimates he'll likely not want to "pay for it himself", unless he's independently wealthy.
