Rudy,

Thank you for your graciousness.? I am honestly confused.? I know that I have seen quite a few E39 and several E60 5 Series with just the angel eyes on, without any running / parking lights and definitely no inner halogen lamp on.? If this is not the DRL how do they have their cars configured to do that with only the angel eyes on?

I think they put there lights in the first position instead of the second. In that way only the angel eyes and the eyebrow are lighted..

Dennis is right!

I do that very often! Turn the light switch to the first position, this the "parking lights" position - now angel eyes and eyebrows with led's are on!

Not to confuse the issue any more, but when my headlights are turned to automatic, (and they are on) the center lights and the angel eyes light up. Is that the way everyone else's are?

i always have mine switch to "auto" and didn't ask my dealer to activate the drl. most of the people over here use drl are either tourists or older folks (not to offend anyone) and i'm neither .

I manually switch my lights since the automatic sensitivity isn't quite up to par with what it should be. At dusk, I manually turn on the parking lights (angels) and as it gets darker, I manually turn the switch to auto to allow the Adaptives to do their magic. When I park the car, I turn the lights back to off -- even though they'd go off by themselves if I did nothing else.

I just bought a 2005 530i and I'm thinking of having the dealer set the DRL option to "on". I'm not sure though what the effect will be. The dealer is not sure either. I also have the active head light option. I assume the DRLs are the center lights which you normally flash for passing and not just the angel rim lights.

When the DRL option is set to "on", do the DRLs shut off at night automatically? Are the DRLs during the day always on independent of light switch position? What about key position?

Confused.

1.) Yes the DRLs are the center lights which you normally use to flash for passing at half intensity. Let me repeat at half intensity. so when you flash someone they will go into full intensity.

2.) When DRLs are set to "on" they turn off when the low beams are turned on. Either by the the car turning the low beams on automatically because you have the switch turned to "auto" (* one click to the left*) or if you turned them on manually (*two clicks to the right*)

DRLs are on dependent on low beam situation when low beams are on they are off. Other wise in any other positions the DRLs will be on. They are not controlled by a sensor. So during the day if you turn on the low beams manually (* two clicks to the right*) the DRLs will go off with the low beams comming on.

You can have pure angel eyes and no DRLs ONLY with the key out and parking lamps on. (* switch one click to the right*) So in other words with DRLs set on you can not drive with only the angel eyes on. There will always be either the low beams or DRL accomodating them.
