When I had my E46 M3 one of the things I really liked on the 5 Series were the Angel Eyes. I even installed after-market Angel Eyes which were close but not perfect. After putting them in despite having followed all the instructions meticulously I had problems with the lenses not sealing and getting condensation on the inside of the lights. I had to have the lights resealed several times at the local Dinan shop, but still had the humidity problem. Well now I am pretty psyched to finally get OEM Angel Eyes, I was just wondering how many had the dealer turn them on as their DRL?

I'm gonna double check. Last time I looked, it seemed I had the angel eyes.

You can't use the angel eyes as DRL's.

DRL's are a low intensity version of the "inner" beams (the ones that are used for "flashing" other drivers).

I chose not to have the DRL's activated -- personally, I don't like the look of them.

Sorry to be ignorant, but is that true? I know that the E39's DRL used the angel eyes and not the inner halogen bulbs.

That's not true either. The E39 and the E60 DRL's are pretty much the same. The biggest difference in lighting between the two is that if you have the bi-xenon headlights, the high beams are simply a shutter that flips up on the main beams (so the inner lamps are not the high beams on the E60 with bi-xenons).

Rudy,

Take a look at this picture of the DRL on this E60. It is obvious that the parking lights are not on. The is no Yellow LED line above the xenon lens. The only thing that is on is the Angel Eyes.Name: DRL.bmp

I'm not sure what the source (or intention) of your picture is. I really have no idea if that pic is trying to show some sort of DRL. The only thing I can tell is that the photo is on a European spec car.

What I'm trying to describe can be seen clearly from these pictures. The third picture is one with the DRL's on and the headlight switch off. The angels are clearly off. The other pictures simply show the car with the headlight switch in "auto" and in these cases, they illustrate the same thing as if the headlight switch was set to "on".

This is not correct for european car. Yes the shutter flips up and you have highbeams from the xenon bulbs. But over here also the inner lamps go on (as high beams) So with high beams on we have 4 lights on at the front of the car.
