No, my 04 545 has them too. Not an LCI thing at all.
I've wondered about changing the color, too, but then I decided not to even persue it since the color matches the gauges and the HVAC stuff...

I have them in my '06 too. Also had them (most of them) in my '99 540i/6 as well. I think that it's a BMW signature of sorts..

had them in my E39 way back in 1996. I am sure other car manufacturers have started to copy this. its extreme coolness by BMW.
