ok if its gps it will be accurate when you have 4 or more sats
Are you sure that the altitude is calculated from sats ??
I think that the altitude is written on the DVD Map.
I saw that, in certain region not mapped, the altitude is very inaccurate.

By definition it's not going to be very accurate unless you can recalibrate it periodically. The altitude information comes from the GPS satellites, not from the mapping software.
The problem with accuracy is that the earth is not perfectly round and while the GPS system can pinpoint your location in time and space, it doesn't always know exactly where MSL (mean sea level) of the earth is. Sounds wierd, but that's the explanation Garmin gives me.

Not too accurate, I think. I was told that you could place yourself anywhere in a 60' sphere given the location you are given--if I am remembering correctly.
Oh, and now I see that Tachyon posted a the link to the discussion I remembered.

Interesting. Like Ricky, I thought the altitude info was taken from the DVD maps.
The reason being, when the DVD is removed, no altitude information is available.
Are you 100% *sure* there is an altimeter on-board?
