Question

So...

Me and my gf went to my sister's today to celebrate her daughter's 4 year birthday. I parked my car on their parking lot and we went inside. Suddenly my sister's older daughter, 7 years old, runs in and hurries to tell me that my car had run down off the road into the forest!

I immediately realized I hadn't put the gear on after parking like I always (well, almost always) do! The worst case scenarios rushed into my mind while I put my shoes on .

The parking lot is completely flat, but still the car had gathered the momentum somehow. The parking lot ends into a VERY steep and long downhill and the forest starts there... So you can imagine my moments of pure horror !

While I get to the car I can see the front wheels are off the road and it lies on its stomach right behind the front wheels on the edge of the parking lot. There's a big pine just in 1 meter in front of the car.

And as unbelievable as it is... I check the side panels, skirts, the front... No damage at all! Zero, none, nolla! It has landed on the stomach panels very smooth and got stuck on the edge.

My sister's neighbour happened to be there with his Volvo and we pulled the car up.

I really had luck with this. There wasn't even any branches on that spot so I was spent from nasty scratches too. I think I should have played some Lotto today .

Shame on me . Hahahaha!

ps. Handbrake tends to freeze on winter time so it has become a habit that I usually don't use it...

Glad to hear that it all ended well. Not only could your vehicle have been damaged, the moving vehicle itself could also have caused property damage
(to another vehicle) or even worse to an unsuspecting pedestrian. You are very fortunate.

It's not that uncommon ... sometimes even the most careful get distracted, even for a moment, and think they set the parking brake or secured in "P" or in gear (manual transmission).

Be glad no one was run over, another vehicle was not hit, and your car rolled somewhere but didn't get damaged.

The scene from ?Ferris Bueller?s Day Off? comes to mind ... when his Father's Ferrari rolled away

Yeah...

Fortunately I had placed the car in a spot that a collision with anything else than the trees in a downhill would have been almost impossible.
