[quote name='gwf545' date='Aug 13 2005, 10:33 PM']Don't be concerned about hitting the brakes too hard.? DSC/DTC/ABS will keep you from skidding and allow you full steering control.? See for yourself by trying it out in an empty parking lot with DSC/DTC disabled and then enabled.? It will give you the confidence to hit the brakes hard and steer whenyou need it for real.

Oh YA! Did that at the Ultimate Driving Experience that BMW puts together every year for free... VERY good events!

Yeah, I did the same when they rolled out the E90 earlier this year. It was a great way to experience different driving situations. It convinced me to sign up for the driving courses.

When the 745Li was launched they had a driving experience with it and did a comparison like the 3 series with "competitors" but the 7 one was much better... they had a few other tests with the instructors driving it and letting us observe...

One was a slalom at like 50mph or somthing, basically at a constant speed, they first showed us the 745Li and it was VERY stable... then went to the S430 and it was all over the place towards the end wheels were screeching and the rear was about to lose it if the slalom went on for a few more turns... kind of like a pendulum effect tooo much sideways momentum towards the end.

Then when they went to the Lexus 430 Oh MAN! half way through the slalom it was fishtailing all over the place you can see the instructor trying to correct it but still keeping speed and then towards the end it was completly out of control...

Then they re-showed the 745Li and it was FLAT the whole way trough no tire squeeling nothing... very impressive.

Never tried the 7 series competitors. But I can recall when I first got my 7 and taking a high-speed turn, the feeling was a little eerie. The car was so flat through the corners that it took a while to get used to the behavior. Mind you it was very nice. My 5 has the same active roll stabilization. That plus the sport pak probably helped to keep the car composed as I had to swerve a couple of times. Frankly, after it was all over, both my wife and I were amazed that we got through it without a scratch. Especially pleasing was that the car was able to respond to my steering inputs and go in the right direction.

Never really looked seriously at anything but Bimmers the last few cars. Frankly, this kind of experience is going to keep me with the brand. Sure the new M is nice and I even like the styling of the new GS but a car must fulfil its primary mission first. All the rest of what we want from our cars must come a distant second.

I agree - sure, I got my e60 because it looks good and goes well, and is superb quality, but overall the main thing is it protects my girl - there's no other car (withing my price range at least) I'd rather her be in should there be any kind of accident.
