Thanks for all of the advice. I have a tire/wheel set for summer, and also a set of wheels for the winter. I will probably get the snows put on those then.
A good move for a Chicago winter.

if u have a dedicated set of wheels for the winter, I would go with winter tires. Why not have the extra safety? One set of wheels for all seasons, go with all season tires

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season in 19inch and so far I havent had any problems in dry, rain or snow weather conditions. I've put 20k plus miles on these tires this past year and there is plenty of tread left.

The fourth of August and we already have a winter season post. This is depressing. Climate change, formerly known as global warming, has finally given us a little bit of summer so I refuse to worry about this now.

I say get the winters for the winter months, x-drive helps you get moving better in the snow but won't help you stop any better, winter tires will help you stop better in the snow. I had winters on my 325xi and it was great in the winter I was getting going from stop lights faster than the SUV's and trucks and I was stopping safely.

I have to agree with that! I slid my 530 xi into a curb this past winter and bent the control arm - granted I was on the stock Conti's. I just put 19 inch VMR 710's on my ride with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus (Thank you Acute Performance) and I am going to 100% put dedicated snow tires on my 17's come winter. It gets pretty nasty in the Natti in the winter.

I had 18" Blizzak LM-25's on my old 530XI and it handled better than my trucks. I called my car the Audi Killer! Hahahaha!

On my M5, I have 19" Blizzak LM-25's mounted on my stock M5 wheels for winter and the car handles amazing. I highly recommend having 2 sets of wheels and going with Blizzaks as your tires for winter. I like them much better than the Dunlop M3's.
