Another E60 but with the "bugs free" option. Still a fantastic car.
BTW I can't understand why BMW takes so long time to fix all the issues we have. We are now 2 years after the launch of the E60 in Europe.

$250K SGD for a 530i is equal to about $150K USD!!!!? For that kind of money, couldn't you fly here to the US and buy a 545, have a nice, first class vacation, ship the car back to Singapore and pocket the change!?!?!?? You'd probably save at least $50K (depending on your vacation)!!!

It'll cost much more to bring in a car that way. The following is the import tax and registration costs.
Reg'n fee - SGD 140.00
Additional Reg'n fee 110% of open market value (cost of vehicle, cif)
Certificate of entitlement - Bid ( in order to put a car on the road)
Exise Duty - 20% of open market value
GST - 5%

As you can see, the ARF and Duties plus GST already brings the car price up 135% from the cif value of the car.

The cost of my 545i (cif) is supposed to be SGD 94279.00. However, I had to pay a total of SGD 317000.00 for the car. Of course this figure also reflects the profit margin of the dealer here on top of all the crap taxes

I don't know how many others had the same experiance I did, but I was able to walk away from by 545i SMG and I replaced it with a 545i SMG.

It is still the best car I have ever owned.

For me it has to be another German car. There is just nothing like it. I could go for (in order of affordability):
- 550i
- M5
- Porsche Carrera 4S
- Porsche GT

and I would make one exception to my "German only" rule for a
- Enzo

I drove a Cayenne S for about 10 months before I changed to my 545. Its an awesome vehicle. Although I heard from many people complaining about the Cayenne, I had fun with it and I have zero problems with it. However, the 545 is a different machine.....and also I am lucky to not have encountered any problems thus far.....But given the choice...unless there is snow in where i live....i would take a 545 anytime

I need a drink aswell. I know diesels. i had lots of them, i know the difference of even 30 hp in diesel world. I have (not for long 535d on the way) a passat 110hp and i know what the same car can do with 140 hp. A golf with the 2.0 TDi engine can keep up with ur vectra or saab because of the weight. So to say a vectra/saab with 150 hp could keep up with a 530d 218 hp and 500NM of torque...man you got facts allllll wrong even if the 5 is 150-200kilos heavier. The 530d would be superior at every chapter: stand off acceleration, top speed and even on the track.

And btw for me it doesn't matter to see that almost everyone has a 5 series or a passat or whatever i drive. I love my own car if it doesn't make me alot of problems and satisfies me on demand, and don't care too much what other people drive. It's a bit of insanity and grandomany to consider selling ur car because other people have the same car. It just shows that other people appreciate the car/make and i would simply simile? every time i would see another car like mine on the streets.

And another fact: try, pls try not to buy a car in the first year since the model was introduced. That's because almost all models from all the carmakers have some kind of issues at the beggining(no one is perfect). It's correct other have a bit more issues, but in the end not all are ultimate driving machines.

I think you missed my points. I wasn't trying to knock the E60. I thoroughly enjoyed my 530d for my period of ownership and I have no regrets about buying a "first year" model. I had to have the engine replaced under warranty due to a major failure but other than one minor issue with i-drive the car was more or less fault free. If anyone is contemplating buying an E60 I'd tell them that it is probably the best large sports saloon of the moment and to go ahead and enjoy it.

My comparison with the other cars mentioned was aimed more at UK drivers and involves real world driving - not tracks, drag strip racing, on paper performance or top speed autobahn runs where the superior power of the BMW would make a difference. Having driven a 530d for nearly 2 years I think I'm qualified to say that both of the cars mentioned could fairly easily keep station with a 530d at the sort of speeds most drivers will reach if they don't want to make newspaper headlines i.e. sub 100 mph I was merely surprised by just how good these cars are and how much they have closed the performance gap for the not insignificant price differential involved. I agree that changing a car because there are lots of them on the road wouldn't be a good enough reason. However, when faced with the decision to change when the time came around, I decided to go for something different as I've had my E60 fix. The fact that there are now so many of them in the UK merely added to my desire to have something a little different this time around although I seriously considered a 535d sport.

My other car is a V6 Cayenne and let me tell you the sound coming out of that engine blows away the E60. Yes the Cay is not as refined or nearly as fast but oh that sound is music to my ears.
