On my Hong Kong spec E60, there isn't any confirmation beep when I lock/armed the alarm. But I remember on the E39, at least in Canada, there are beeps when you lock/unlock the car. Do they still have it in the E60? If so, how does it sound like?

Well I have a US spec e60. I receive one "BEEP" for locking and two for unlocking. I don't know any other spec so I couldn't advice you on it. I do find it odd though that you don't get the same if not similar notification.

In the U.S., and I assume everywhere , you can turn it on or off through I-drive. Look in the vehicle settings.

Correct, you can select audio, visual (blinking lights), both or none for alarm confirmation in the iDrive, at least here in North America!

I think this is a Euro spec vs US spec thing, in sue happy US of A, people may sue for anything and I think it includes the alarm beeping. Let's say if someone forgot to lock their vehicle in the states and things got stolen as a result they may sue the car maker for not putting audio confirmation of locking in the alarm system. My previous E39 in Hong Kong doesn't have the audio confirmation but in Canada I am pretty sure there is because I heard this guy locking his E39 and there is for sure a audio confirmation.

No option to turn on beep on European spec models. No idea why. Flash is however there.

Just flashing indicators confirmation on mine and I guess everywhere in Europe. I don't know anyone in Europe with a car that locks and unlocks with sound confirmation.
