My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i
Hi everyone,
I have an early build 2004 530i. Its alarm recently started to go off randomly. One day I was sitting in the waiting room of a doctor's office, and my car was sitting right outside, and the alarm started to go off randomly, nothing happened around it, I went out and noticed the auto-air thing was on, but that was the only occasion that it happened and the air was on (I have not used it since). It is not being hit by another car, its not someone's music or muffler that vibrates the ground enough to set the alarm off, and I was not holding the the trunk open button. I have no clue.
Does anyone know the cause or how to fix it? Should I just take it to the dealer to see if they can fix it?
I have one other question, the driver side turning signal (near the door, the small one) is no longer sticking to the panel. How should I glue it back on? I can get it to stay in place, but it easily comes off, unlike the other side.
Thanks,
Mitchell
P.S. A search did not yield the information I was looking for.

The problem could be a bad tilt sensor with your alarm. I would bring it in and have the dealer check to make sure they are working correctly.

What pocket do you keep your keys in? It's not uncommon for the panic feature to be activated accidentally in cases where the key is in a back pocket, etc.

This was happening to mine too. I searched around the forums and people said it could be a faulty hood sensor. Some people said they just unplugged it or got it replaced from the dealer.

Problem with my 2004 530i is when I click the 'open trunk' button on my key, the alarm usually goes off.
What's with that? It's gotten to where I have to manually open the lid, which sort of defeats the utility of having the button when you've got an armload of groceries...

If you hold down the trunk release for about 3 full seconds that is the PANIC button and so sets off the alarm! Trunk release is about 2 seconds. Just a momentary press does nothing.

I had no idea. Not a very good design if a difference of only 1s causes the alarm to go off!

Not sure if this is this is the case here though.

I guess I will take it in to have the dealership check it.

I've had this happen to me too Rudy, when something was pushing against the Key FOB button in my pocket as I was going out to uncover my car... I was bewildered at first, then realized what had happened, mcuh relieved..

Unfortunately it is not that simple... I have not been near my car at times, and was walking back to it and could hear it. Also, the lights continue flashing until it unlocked I believe.
Thanks for all your help!
