I hope that maybe there is a service tech on the site that can help me sort this out ....

I got my BMW Sports Steering Wheel yesterday and installed it my self this morning (Im quite capable of installing pretty much anything ... yet Im not a Engineer). I followed the directions which can be found here:

Airbag Wiring DIY Guide

The install was straight fwd however I had one issue while installing it:

if you see post #12 about the Airbag re-wiring, I messed up and did not switch the pin for the horn + & - with each other and started the car before realizing I have the Airbag Malfunction Error. I then went back and found the error and corrected it but for some reason I'm still getting the Airbag Malfunction Error when the car starts

My question is .... 1) if I got the air bag error will it have to be reset by BMW Service? or does the error go away if the error has been corrected????

2) While looking at the install instructions can you see any other connections then the ones associated with the plug? As if there is a error I must be missing it some how. I have checked and checked and checked every connection and wire at least 10x and am totally racking my brain over this.

Please help! Thanks!!!

Do i need to reboot the system by a BMW technician???

Does anyone know how to do it themselves? Rumor has it that you can take the battery cables and touch them together a couple times to glitch the system... not sure if im up to this

Joe, you will need to have BMW reset the Airbag light, it will not eventually reset itself. I don't believe there is a way to reset it yourself.

Yeah Anzafin and I have been going back and forth in our PMs. He's been very helpful.

- Anzafin's: PRE-9/05 Steering Wheel with PRE-9/05 Airbag to a PRE-9/05 E60 so it was pretty straight forward.

- T_He is: POST-9/05 Steering Wheel with POST-9/05 Airbag to a PRE-9/05

- Mine is: PRE-9/05 Steering Wheel with POST-9/05 Airbag to a PRE-9/05

So there was alot of mixing and matching going on in my set-up, but I finally pieced it all together and turned out great except for the warning light. This is probably the worst mod ive done, because it was so confusing and expensive. I reasearched over 20 hours doing this and driving/calling around town to get the correct parts in order to fit.

yeah, wasn't sure the specs of your e60 and your steering wheels so I gave it a shot...wonder if a BT, OBDII, or GT-1 scan can clear the code for you....

GL man....

I'm crossing my fingers!

Now im afraid of warranty, the airbag has been tampered with so Im not sure how they evaluate this warning light.

that's why I suggested a Bavarian Tool or GT-1 scan....a few local shops here in so cal have them..and a lot of e90members do as well (BT's)....it can clear any codes thrown....so when BMW scans your e60...they wouldn't even know the air bag has been disconnected
