This whole summer my A/C has been doing the same thing. It blows extremely hot air for about 15 mins before it starts cooling. It only gets cool when i hit speeds of about 50+ mph. I checked the freon gas psi and it was fine. I cant think of anything else. Even when its gets cool, its not adequate. Its just better than nothing at all. Sometimes even when its cool at night around 72 degrees, it blows out 90 degree air for 15 minutes.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Mike

Did you have a BMW trained mechanic look at it? How did you "check the freon gas psi" to verify it was "fine?"

I am not under warranty. I bought a can from Advanced Auto thinking all i needed to do was fill the car with freon assuming there was no leak. It showed the PSI level to be correct. I am trying everything to avoid bringing it to my service center. I only have the maintance warranty.
Thanks

I realize you're trying to save a few bucks but unfortunately, the hvac system is quite complex -- the refrigerant may or may not be the issue -- even if there was a problem with the refrigerant, my personal opinion is that buying a can of refrigerant from an auto parts store isn't usually the way to go...

+1 ... overcharging the system can be as incorrect as an undercharged system - IF the refrigerant load is actually the problem. You may do more harm than good trying to find a cheap fix. Way too many variables in these systems to try and fix it under a shade tree.

had my system replaced for the same issue for two times during the first 2 years of my warranty. BMW technician said the reason is due to a weak compressor.

I think when you turn the a/c on and stand outside of the car you should hear and probably see the auxillary fan.
