We won't know for a while...the F07 is the first "car" to get it state side, and we really won't know till it starts showing up in large #'s in the E9x/F30 and the F10/11/2's
New Motor will be in the F10, the LCI E9x, LCI 8x, New X3 , X5, F07,F11's...most likely the X6 during the LCI refresh as well as the F01's
N55 Single turbo , dual Scroll, Direct injection valvetronic motor.
The N54 is basically being with drawn except in very limited high output interim "iS" versions of the z4 and LCI E9x's for the 2011 MY. BMW has had to Advance the roll out of the N55 by many years in some models due to the large number of problems with the N54 and the upcoming fleet efficiency standards and emissions updates the government made.
I don't recall a 3er ever going threw 3 generations much less 4,of Six in one model generation. Usually it's 2, it starts out with the previous gen 3er 's sixes upgraded a bit , then 2-3 down the road it gets the new motor ( in this case the M54 to the N51/2/3 to the N54 to the new N55 just for the E9x....).
If I were a N54 owner ( I was...
) I'd wait at least 2 years for it to be in the 3 and 5's the see if there are any issues before getting one.
