This is my first car with an automatic gearbox and having read about brake torqeuing on this forum I have been trying it out.

I've done a couple of starts with DSC enabled which went great - actually got brief wheelspin immediately followed by a VERY hard start - nice

After reading znods posts in particular about runs with DSC off I thought I would give it a go today.

The roads were lovely and dry so I picked a likely spot and pulled up on a 60mph 'b' road.

I brake torqued to 2000rpm (so I would have all 500nm ready to go) - then lifted off and simultaneously floored the accelerator.

Instead of tearing off into the sunset - my car stayed absolutely still whilst the back wheels span and the RPM needle shot straight up to the red-line and stayed there for 2-3 seconds.

In the end I just eased off the gas and gently pulled away......

Thank god no-one was watching

I've been itching to try it myself but haven't found the right conditions yet (ie. no wife and no kids in the car). The other problem I have is finding a suitable road to try it on. Id hate to get a ticket while just having a little fun. I bet it was huge adrenaline rush when the car just sat there spinning the tires!

how bad is this for the clutch to rev up to about 2000RPM while pressing the brakes?

There isn't a clutch as such... There's torque convertor that acts as a clutch. Actually, while you're revving the engine and braking there's no 'harm' done at all because there's no connection but the minute the brake is released the pressure starts to build and the stress starts It's equivalent to 'dropping the clutch'

Good one. I imagine you were pretty impressive. I wish I could have seen the show. Not surprising in a torquemiester like the 535d.

Moderate brake torquing should not hurt at all unless done so repetitively in a short period of time that tranny/converter heat is allowed to go too high. I say "moderate" just to throw in an implied caveat about brake torquing at an "excessivel" level. IMO, brake torquing would only hurt acceleration at such a level anyway.

I agree, insofar in my case after about 6-8 runs using brake torquing my times will fall off pretty good and I call it a day. Also another reason I have packed it in for the summer (nearly 8 months) here in Florida and will return to testing in the cool of the fall.
