Exclamation Adaptive Xenxon + Fogs Strange issue!

Hi Guys,

its been a while! Hope all your beemers are running well.

Ive encountered a strange issue a few days ago I was just driving along and got the Low beam failure error on the iDrive but i could see the reflection of my car on the car infront of me and both low beams were on except the left side and changed colour (slightly pink) then eventually the lamp went out (expected but as the lamp seemed like it had reached the end of its life)

Then on the next drive the left lamp came back on again but it was a bluish colour now and not so bright but this stayed on for the complete journey now it does not come on at all. But today i noticed when my lamps are in the 'auto' position now the right xenon and both rings illuminate as expected but now both fogs illuminate too?! But when i switch it over from Auto to just On the fogs do not come on! Any idea what is going on here?

Many thanks in advance

Could be the LCM (light control module) failing ?? I'd first check each wiring harness and plug at the headlights - I've read reports of wiring harness failures.

Oh crap.

Thanks for the reply.

I though the fogs may be coming on to compensate for the xexon lamp which has come to the end of its life.

Would you guys reccomend to replace the HID lamp and see if the fogs stop coming on?

Fog lamps are supposed to turn on ONLY when the fog light button is pressed. Fog lights won't turn on [automatically] even if all other lights failed. Hence, replacing HID lights won't solve the issue of fog lights turning on without you pressing the button.

As luigi suggested above, I also think failing/failed LCM is likely the culprit.

Hi

Thanks for your advice.

I will look in to this LCM a bit more when i get time! Today the fogs never came on..

Does anyone know where this LCM unit is?

And sorry to ask another silly question but i do not know if my lamp is D1S or D2S? I keep seeing people saying different ones. Its a 09/2006 (56) E60

Thanks

Behind the driver sidekick panel (you have to remove the cover panel under the steering wheel).

As for the kind of D1S or D2S bulb the ring of main beam Xenon projector has printed letter around it (if it's Adaptive Xenon) but it's better to check directly by removing the bulb to make sure ...

Google is your friend ... Or search the DIY's in the forum - best of my recollection is no tools are required; bulbs are removed and replaced like this
