I think they mean "Toyota catches up"....Swiveling headlights were introduced in the late 1920s. However, we will accept their slogan "The Passionate Pursuit of Perfection."

And, I wish them luck with those "100 onboard sensors" Count 'em!

Cheers,

Tucker was much later, but yes it had them too. The first ones, as I recall old ads and diagrams, were free- standing lamps on a cross bar, attached to steering mechanism. In any event, they have been around for a good 60 years. So much for Lexus ad copy writers (and fact checkers). Note the term "adaptive" also....All in an ad in the June issue of Automobile Magazine.

Blah... I hate when Other manufactures advertise so heavily on technology thats been copied... Hello!! BMW had it on the E65 since when? 2001? 5 years later they introduce it on the IS and now 6 years later they put it on the ES 350 and make a big deal out of it.

Many auto manufacturers (like Lexus) do actively tout their technology, but only after they have torn apart a Bimmer.

Wasnt the Citroen DS the first car with swivelling headlights in the 1960s or 70s?

This maybe what I remembered when I said a ca. 1920 car with swivel headlights (these swivel around to illuminate the engine bay), but I thought I recalled reading about a 20s car with lamps that swiveled with the steering, but they may have been after-market offerings.

Answers.com claims that 1936 Tatra, but then elsewhere says Tucker in 1948.

So why was it discontinued / stopped for so long? Who brought it back? BMW? or did some other company bring it back in the late 90s eary 2000s before BMW?
