Default Adaptive Headlight Issue Continued - 10’ 528xi

Good morning guys

I posted a few days ago about an issue with my headlights where my driver side only turns on the daytime running lights and my passenger side only turns on high beams.

I checked out the wire harness and it looks good. I also checked all connectors and fuses and they look good.

My guy told me it’s the module/ballast but when I look under the headlight theres two:

Rectangular with yellow sticker saying ”Xenon Vorschaftgerat 12V” & a smaller square-shaped “BMW 6 934 836”

At this point I don’t want to spend $400+ for each headlight so I want to see which module I should replace or if I should just change both.

Just swap the suspect ballast from one side to the other. When the problem follows the ballast, change that one.

And don't forget to look inside those lights for signs of deteriorating wiring insulation - it's a virtual plague with these cars, and could be causing your problems.

Thanks I didn’t think of that til now. I swapped both xenon and adaptive ballasts and now driver side is good and passenger side has no lights, so I will be ordering those parts in a bit.

You may get real lucky...try cleaning up all the crap in the connector...and it's mate. Then see if it works. It could be there is enough stray electrical conducting through the crap to make it not work.

You might want to spray some Electrical contact cleaner in there.
