Hi guys, I've had this problem for 2-3 years now without any error messages, It doesn't worry me anymore because I beleive its got to do with the amount of battery charge. After a few trips in morning on the same day I notice the movement is restored but always occurs when the car is cold.

I had BMW look at this during the warranty and they said I needed a new battery at the time so I have a feeling the module requires high voltage, they said it certainly needed a fully charged battery to reprogramme the headlights.

If yours is permanently off and never working even after a 30minute run then it's probably something else.

There is an Adaptive Light Computer/Control module on the bottom of the headlight (The smaller unit - usually on 2 or 3 screws)

One of them is out - You need a new one.

The only way to test it is to replace it with a new one or from one of your friends car.

Remember both need to be working in order for the Adaptive function to work, what I mean by that is - If you have even one Adaptive Light Computer/Control burnt out, the lights are not going to move up and down or sideways.

Yes you can always manually tune them by tightening or untightening the Allen plastic screw located on the top of the headlight
