Is it normal for the steering to make a sound when a.) the ignition is shut off and key is removed (and steering retreats upwards), b.) the reverse, when the ignition is turned on, and c.) occasionally when a bump is traversed.

Is this the "active" part of the system working, or what? Have any of you experienced this phenomenon?

This board has been great, lots of good information. I don't visit RF anymore.

Thanks!

I guess the best way to describe it is like a slight knocking or thunk sound, but in fairly rapid succession. It isn't a smooth sound.

Mine does it too. When you turn on the ignition, and the wheel is returning to its last position, it's choppy and makes a knocking sound. I don't recall it from day one, but it's always there now. I figure it's no big deal and if it gets worse, it's under warranty. I wouldn't think it's a safety issue, just a little choppiness in the steering wheel tilt mechanism.

I went out and made a sound clip. It is pronounced because I am tugging at the wheel, but this is the sound I hear without tugging the wheel under the aforementioned circumstances...

Thanks guys

That's the sound, but it makes it when the wheel is moving down to the previous position. Sometimes, it also does it when I'm backing out of the drive and turning the wheel, like you were doing.

Exactly. The wheel was moving up and down when I shot the pic, but the sound usually appears only 2-3 times, so I exaggerated the sound by pulling the wheel. So, yes, it happens when steering wheel moves up or down and when I'm crossing a bump, seems most pronounced when the car is crossing the bump at say a 45 degree angle.

Where did that smiley come from, I'm not laughing!

When you replied, you must've clicked on the lol-icon(smiley) in the "Post Icons" sections, right below the section in which you write your post...
You can go back (edit) and then chose "User None" in that section and the smiley is gone...
