Active Steering Module

Hello 5series.net forum members,

I had an active steering alert and took my 2004 545 to my local BMW Indy. He's telling me that the active steering module needs to be replaced (not just the angle sensor). He's quoting me 1500 to replace it. I think this is the part here

Is there a DIY for this or does it require any special initialization?
Is this unit under the passenger seat?

My Indy is also quoting 400 for a new battery (I have the original one in there now). Is this a fare price?

there was a tread early about the battery. Alot of people said they went to pep boys and bought themselves one for $100 and have 7 year replacement. Dealerships can charge and arm and a leg just because you own a 5 series they think we have $$ LOL.. Hope this helps and as for steering module sorry no info on that
