Low battery voltage will definitely cause not only the AS alert, but the AS system non-functional.... for a while. In my case, AS started working on its own and the alert cleared from the Check Messages when the battery charge came back to full status.

Cool, I'll check the manual. I really hate doing this, as it is against my man code.

had the same issue minus the turn signal issues.

1. Turning sterring full to the left and right and switching engine off/on- did not work
2. Resetted the ECU and reprogrammed-did not work
2. Found leakage on battery- chaged battery and checked again- still did not work
3. Found active steering module failure- Apparently there was a recall on this. Mentioned by the dealer. Been 3 months now and no reoccurance.

Hope this helps....

I had this issue was the 1st for my BMW. I drove in they checked the PS fuild it was ok. Turned out to be a steering wheel position sensor. They swaped it out, had to re program the car and all was good.

This light came on last night, after I filled up w gas. I was never aware that my car even had active steering! Anyway it's gone away this morning I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.

Do you remember the cost? I'm interested to see if it is worth it or just live with until trade in?

Mine was done under warranty so $$$'s weren't noted on the service order - they had my car for one day (incl reprogramming) if that's any indication.
