I was driving home last night when all of a sudden my active steering acted up. Scary feeling to say the least, the steering became quite stiff. I pulled over and turned the car off and on same thing. This morning when I first started it the active steering was still inactive...after a few minutes of driving it went back to normal. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm due for a service next week .

Glad you posted this, Scorpio. Unfortunately, 98% of the folks on this board will now attempt to say that what occurred to you never happened (see prior threads). Just take it in for service. It's fruitless to discuss it here. I'm taking mine in again tomorrow.

Take it in right away. I just had to have my entire steering assembly replaced due to active steering faults. At first they tried software fixes but that did not work and mechanical replacement was needed.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Agree with Evenflow545 -- have them look at when it's in for service next week.

I have noticed this anomally on my 530d as well. But then, what happens is I loose AS or it reports being faulty when I stall the guy. It's always resets when I restart the car.

I had it happen to me a few months ago. I took my 545 to my dealership and while they were able to find a fault code, the diagnostic computer wouldn't give them any info about the message. The checked a bunch of other things related to the steering and found no other problems. Then last week I had it happen twice on startup. The car really vibrated badly and the active steering error message came up immediately. Both times I turned the car and started it up again right away and the problem went away.
